Opposition to Ballroom Funding

To: Sen. Grassley, Sen. Ernst, Rep. Feenstra

From: A constituent in Sioux City, IA

May 5

I am writing to express firm opposition to the proposed allocation of $1 billion in taxpayer funding for the president’s White House ballroom project. I am deeply concerned by the attempt to use public funds for a project that was explicitly promised to be privately financed. This request represents the exact waste and abuse that needs to be cut from federal spending. Furthermore, I am alarmed by reports of unapproved demolition and ongoing construction that bypassed established federal oversight. The demolition of the White House East Wing was carried out without the required oversight from the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC) or the Commission of Fine Arts, as required by law. It is particularly troubling that construction has reportedly continued despite judicial orders to halt work. Using national security as a pretext to circumvent the law and congressional authority is an obvious example of executive overreach. I urge you to reject any appropriation of public funds for this venue and to demand a full investigation into these unauthorized activities. Congress must exercise its oversight powers to constrain these illegal actions and ensure that the administration remains accountable to both the law and the American taxpayer. The White House is a public trust, and its integrity must be protected.
