Starvation in Gaza--Unacceptable!
To: Rep. McCaul, Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn
From: A constituent in Bryan, TX
July 23
I write to you not as a partisan, not as a politician, but as a human being deeply disturbed by what is happening in Gaza. I urge you to read this with your heart as well as your conscience. Children are starving to death. Entire families are withering away for lack of food, clean water, and medical care. UN agencies, doctors, and international human rights organizations are documenting the same thing: this is not a famine caused by drought or nature. This is man-made. And our government—through billions in unconditional funding and weapons transfers—is complicit. How can we justify sending another dollar when the result is the slow, deliberate killing of a besieged civilian population? How do we explain this to our children—that while we debate political optics and alliances, toddlers in Gaza are dying from hunger-related complications? That women are giving birth in rubble without anesthesia? That entire hospitals are turned into graveyards? The world is watching, but more importantly—history will remember. And right now, Congress is failing a fundamental test of morality and leadership. This is genocide. That is not hyperbole. When a population is cut off from food, water, aid, and safety—and this is done with intent and knowledge of the consequences—it meets the legal and moral definition. And every day that you continue approving military aid, you endorse it. Do not hide behind rhetoric. Do not fall back on political donations or fear of losing elections. You were elected to serve the people, not special interests. And the people of this country do not want to fund mass starvation. They do not want their tax dollars to pay for the slow extermination of civilians. End the weapons shipments. Demand full humanitarian access. Freeze military aid until there is a verifiable ceasefire and life-saving assistance is flowing freely. We cannot bomb our way to peace. We cannot starve a people into submission and expect justice. But we can choose a different path. You can choose a different path. Stand up. Speak out. Do something. Or history will ask what you were doing while Gaza burned—and all you’ll be able to say is: nothing.
