#FundLibraries in the Labor, HHS, Education, and Related Agencies Bill

To: Sen. Bennet, Rep. Evans, Sen. Hickenlooper

From: A constituent in Westminster, CO

May 26

The proposed Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 federal budget released by the White House would cut funding for, and eliminate, the only federal agency dedicated to supporting all types of libraries, the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS); the school library program Innovative Approaches to Literacy (IAL); and several other library-eligible programs. Funds administered by IMLS provided $3.2 million to Colorado in 2024, supporting 112 Public Libraries, 103,800 Free Programs, 19 Million+ Items Circulated, and 1,183 School / 33 Academic Libraries. With pressure from the Executive Branch in full swing, it's more important than ever that Congress fund libraries in next year's budget. I ask that you protect these vital resources for our libraries and museums that serve the essential educational and social well-being of all Americans and Coloradans.
