Older adults often have low or fixed incomes, making it hard to afford food and other essentials.
For hundreds of thousands of these seniors, the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) helps provide consistent access to fruits, vegetables, grains, protein, dairy and other nutritious food needed to stay healthy, active and independent.
CSFP also helps address the serious health impacts of food insecurity among older adults. The food packages are specifically designed to supplement nutrients often missing from seniors’ diets, helping reduce the risk of hospitalization and nursing home placement.
I’m asking you to help ensure seniors have access to nutritious foods. In the upcoming FY27 appropriations bill, please fully fund CSFP at $495 million to maintain the current caseload and ensure seniors with low incomes can continue to benefit from this vital program and access the food they need to stay healthy.
