Seeking Clarification on Congressional Redistricting Standards
To: Rep. Fitzpatrick
From: A constituent in Quakertown, PA
August 21, 2025
As a concerned citizen and your constituent from Quakertown, I am writing to you today to request an explanation regarding a matter of great importance to me: the standards for congressional redistricting.
I am struggling to understand the rationale behind what appears to be a double standard in this process. Recently, Texas engaged in a partisan mid-decade redistricting effort. This action was widely seen as a partisan maneuver, yet it appears to have been accepted. Conversely, partisan redistricting in states like California has been met with significant criticism.
I am asking you, as my elected representative, to please explain the underlying principles and rules that make a partisan mid-decade redistricting in Texas acceptable and encouraged, while the same action by another state is not. A clear and consistent application of standards is essential for maintaining public trust in our democratic process, and I would appreciate a comprehensive explanation of your position on this issue.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. I look forward to your response.
