An Open Letter

To: Gov. Newsom, Asm. Bonta, Sen. Arreguín

From: A constituent in Alameda, CA

February 1

I am deeply troubled by the allegations that the Trump administration has set up an unauthorized email server within the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to funnel sensitive federal employee data to an employee of Elon Musk's private corporation. This would represent a major breach of transparency and a violation of laws protecting federal workers' personal information. As a federal employee, I have grave concerns about the security risks posed by this rogue email system. OPM has already suffered major data breaches in recent years exposing personnel records. Creating a new email channel without proper oversight only heightens the chances of our data falling into the wrong hands. This alleged diversion of employee information to a private company is unacceptable. I urge you to investigate these serious claims immediately. The email system in question must be shut down until OPM can assure federal workers that our confidential records will be safeguarded according to stringent data security protocols. Allowing our personal details to be funneled to private corporations is an abuse of power that undermines public trust. Swift action is needed to protect federal employees' privacy rights and hold any wrongdoers accountable.
