I fully support every person’s right to bodily autonomy and to make private healthcare decisions in consultation with qualified medical professionals. Medical treatment should be determined by patients and their healthcare providers based on each individual’s health, circumstances, needs, and informed consent—not by elected officials who are not part of that patient’s medical team. I strongly oppose legislation that restricts access to medically appropriate care, overrides the recommendations of medical specialists, or threatens patients, families, doctors, hospitals, and pharmacists with legal or professional consequences for participating in legitimate healthcare decisions. These principles should apply consistently to all people and all forms of healthcare. The government should not selectively decide that certain patients are less entitled than others to privacy, bodily autonomy, informed consent, or evidence-based medical treatment. Legislative interference can delay necessary care, force medical professionals to disregard their training and ethical responsibilities, and place patients’ health and lives at risk. It can also create fear and confusion for families who are already navigating deeply personal and sometimes urgent medical circumstances. Please protect the right of every person to pursue treatments recommended by their qualified medical specialists. I ask you to oppose legislation that inserts politicians into private medical decisions and to support policies that preserve patient privacy, informed consent, professional medical judgment, and equal access to appropriate healthcare. My body does not belong to the state. Neither does anyone else’s.
