Demand for Investigation into Illegal Use of Government Resources and Corruption
To: Sen. Cruz, Rep. Moran, Sen. Cornyn
From: A constituent in Kilgore, TX
March 12
I am writing to demand an immediate investigation into Elon Musk’s $100 million political donation to Trump, his role as a government employee, and the recent White House event that served as both a Tesla promotion and a campaign boost for the president. These actions raise serious legal concerns, including violations of the Hatch Act, campaign finance laws, and anti-corruption statutes. Government Resources for Private & Political Gain It is illegal to use federal resources for campaign or private business promotion. The White House Tesla event was a blatant violation of the Hatch Act (5 U.S.C. § 7323), which prohibits government officials from using their positions for political or commercial gain. Musk, while acting as a special government employee, directly benefited from a taxpayer-funded platform to promote Tesla while pledging $100 million to Trump’s political operation. This is an unprecedented conflict of interest. Additionally, under the Federal Election Campaign Act (52 U.S.C. § 30101 et seq.), federal candidates cannot coordinate with Super PACs—yet Musk’s donation directly funds Trump’s political operation while Musk oversees federal workforce reductions and potential policy shifts benefiting his business interests. This appears to be a textbook case of quid pro quo corruption and bribery (18 U.S.C. § 201). Trump’s Destruction of Oversight & Supreme Court Influence Compounding these violations, Trump has replaced key Inspectors General with loyalists, eliminating independent oversight. This is a deliberate effort to shield his administration from investigations into ethical and legal violations. Trump has also publicly bragged about controlling the Supreme Court, undermining the very foundation of our democracy. If Trump believes the Court will shield him from accountability, it means we no longer have an independent judiciary, but a political tool used to protect corruption. Demand for Congressional Investigation I am putting Congress on record with the following demands: • Investigate Musk’s dual role as a federal advisor and political megadonor. • Determine whether the White House event violated the Hatch Act and campaign finance laws. • Review Trump’s removal of Inspectors General and investigate its impact on federal accountability. • Ensure federal employees cannot simultaneously donate to political operations while influencing policy. The American people deserve transparency and accountability. If Congress fails to act, it will confirm that our government is being run for the benefit of billionaires and political elites rather than the people.
