Uphold Judicial Authority, Facilitate Garcia's Return as Ordered

To: Sen. Hickenlooper, Rep. Hurd, Sen. Bennet

From: A verified voter in Grand Junction, CO

April 16

The Trump administration's refusal to bring back Kilmar Abrego Garcia from the notorious Salvadoran prison, defying a clear Supreme Court order, is a deeply concerning overreach of executive power and an affront to the rule of law. Garcia was illegally deported to El Salvador despite having protection from removal, and the administration's attempts to justify this by baselessly claiming he is a gang member are unconvincing. Not only is Garcia being held in appalling conditions at the CECOT prison, but the administration is now arguing it has no obligation to facilitate his return, in direct contradiction of the Supreme Court's mandate. This flagrant disregard for judicial authority and due process sets a dangerous precedent that could enable further erosion of constitutional checks and balances. As public servants entrusted to uphold the law, you must demand the administration immediately comply with the Supreme Court ruling and return Garcia to the United States where his case can receive proper adjudication. Failing to do so would be an unacceptable defiance of the judiciary and a step towards authoritarian rule. The separation of powers is fundamental to American democracy, and you have a duty to ensure it is robustly defended.
