Vote No on H.R. 5888! Defend Global Climate Action

To: Rep. McClintock, Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla

From: A constituent in El Dorado Hills, CA

November 12

I urge you to oppose the “UNtaxed Act” (H.R. 5888). The goal of the bill is to prevent the United Nations and its member countries from exploring global carbon taxes. A carbon tax is one of the most effective tools we have to cut pollution and hold big polluters accountable. If passed, it would ban the U.S. from providing funding to any U.N. body that imposes a carbon tax to address climate change. This bill is a gift to fossil fuel companies. It protects their profits and undermines global cooperation all while starving climate action programs of urgently-needed resources. We’re already seeing what happens when leaders delay: farmers losing crops to drought, families forced from flooded homes, towns burning, and children breathing smoke-filled air. Every fraction of a degree of warming matters — and every bit of carbon we stop today helps protect lives tomorrow. Vote No!
