Debriefing the election results
To: Rep. Clarke
From: A constituent in Brooklyn, NY
November 9
The election losses were devastating for democrats. I am very disappointed with the lack of a strong message for the working class. Yes, Kamala discussed some policies that would have helped but that wasn’t enough. The party needs to do a lot of introspection and figure out how to appeal to the anxiety and fears of working class folks that Trump seems to be good at channeling. The democrats should also abandon their Wall Street overlords. That’s gotta stop, it’s unacceptable and it’s part of the problem. I find republican policies despicable but lack of direction on the democratic side is completely appalling, especially after 8 years during which you could have learned the lesson. I hope Trump won’t do too much damage to the most vulnerable people and to the very fragile institutions of our country. But democrats need to accept their responsibility in this unprecedented disaster that may cost us our rights, our freedoms, the health of our planet and the future of our children.
Get rich people’s money out of politics. Get rid of the electoral college. Work towards universal health care and universal child care. These are not controversial policies outside the US. Make them so in this country as well. Or, as Trump would say, we won’t have a country anymore.
