Priortize Iowa’s Clean Water/Health Over Executive Fluff and Foreign Conflict

To: Sen. Grassley, Rep. Nunn, Sen. Ernst

From: A verified voter in Waukee, IA

May 27

I am writing to you today as a constituent, a voter, and a deeply concerned Iowan to demand a drastic and immediate reevaluation of how our federal tax dollars are being allocated. While hundreds of millions of dollars are funneled into an unauthorized, illegal conflict in Iran and secondary luxury projects for the executive branch—including massive slush funds, ballroom renovations, and athletic venues—the people of Iowa are paying for federal neglect with their health and their lives. According to the latest data from the Iowa Cancer Registry, our state now holds the devastating title of having the **second-highest cancer incidence rate in the nation**, and we are one of the only states where that rate is actively rising. This is not a distant, abstract statistic. This crisis is stealing the futures of young adults, adolescents, and innocent children in our communities who face devastating diagnoses and may not live to see their next birthdays. The scientific consensus is becoming clearer by the day: our families are being poisoned by what is in our water, soil, and air. Decades of agricultural runoff, high nitrate levels, industrial contaminants, and PFAS ("forever chemicals") have left many of our communities with toxic drinking water. This is an existential public health emergency that requires massive federal intervention, infrastructure updates, and strict environmental oversight. Yet, when I look at where federal resources are directed, the priorities are completely broken: * **Foreign Intervention:** Billions are being poured into an unauthorized, costly war in Iran that lacks congressional approval and does nothing to protect the American homeland. * **Executive Vanity Projects:** Millions more are being wasted on what can only be described as discretionary fluff—new slush funds, specialized UFC cages, ballroom upgrades, and vanity infrastructure that serves no public utility. It is a moral failure that we can seamlessly find unlimited federal funding for foreign battlefields and luxury executive renovations, but are told the resources do not exist to secure clean, safe drinking water for families in the American heartland. Every dollar spent on an unconstitutional war or a luxury ballroom is a dollar stolen from the medical research, water filtration systems, and environmental remediation that could save an Iowan child's life. As my voice in Washington, I urge you to: 1. **Vote to defund** any unauthorized military operations in Iran and assert Congress’s constitutional War Powers. 2. **Demand strict oversight** and claw back executive discretionary funds slated for non-essential luxury and entertainment projects. 3. **Fight for emergency federal funding** targeted directly at midwestern water infrastructure, PFAS remediation, and expanded pediatric and adult cancer research for high-incidence states like Iowa. Our children deserve a future where turning on the kitchen tap isn't a gamble with their health. I expect you to stand up for your constituents and bring our tax dollars back home to fix our poisoned water and save lives. Thank you for your time, your attention to this urgent matter, and your prompt action. I look like forward to hearing how you plan to address this crisis.
