Stop the Unconstitutional Detention of U.S. Citizens During Immigration Raids
To: Sen. Young, Sen. Banks, Rep. Carson
From: A constituent in Indianapolis, IN
August 5
Americans are pissed off about recent reports documenting at least nine U.S. citizens who have been detained and held in federal custody after observing or protesting immigration raids in Los Angeles. These citizens were taken into custody by ICE or Border Patrol agents since June 6, 2025, with two currently facing federal charges.
This practice raises serious constitutional concerns:
1. Federal agents appear to be detaining citizens for exercising their First Amendment rights to observe and protest
2. Detainees report being held in overcrowded, inhumane conditions
3. There are allegations of false statements in arrest reports and collaboration between local police and federal agents
4. A federal judge has already ruled that these patrols were conducted without reasonable suspicion
I demand the government of the United States immediately:
1. Cease all detentions of U.S. citizens during immigration enforcement activities
2. Release all wrongfully detained citizens and drop all related charges
3. Conduct a full independent investigation into these incidents
4. Ensure detainees have proper access to legal counsel
5. Provide transparent reporting on all arrests made during immigration raids
These actions violate fundamental civil rights and undermine public trust in our law enforcement agencies. Americans want you to take immediate corrective measures to prevent further abuses of power.
