Block Trump's Unlawful Renaming and Closure of the Kennedy Center

To: Rep. DelBene, Sen. Cantwell, Sen. Murray

From: A verified voter in Bothell, WA

August 14

Block the Trump board's latest attempt to deface and close the Kennedy Center. A federal judge has already ruled twice that the board has no authority to rename this living memorial — Congress named it, and only Congress can change that. The board's 20-3 vote to rebrand it "Restored and Renovated by President Donald J. Trump" and rename its plaza after him is a direct defiance of Judge Christopher Cooper's May ruling, and it needs to be challenged immediately. This isn't a renovation dispute. It's a politically motivated takeover of a national memorial to an assassinated president, pushed by a board Trump stacked with allies after appointing himself chairman. The National Symphony Orchestra, which has called the Concert Hall home since the 1970s, is now scrambling for venues. Closing the main building for two years while flouting court orders isn't stewardship — it's sabotage. Use every legislative tool available to protect the Kennedy Center's name, its mission, and its independence from this administration.
