Scrutinize DOGE's unsubstantiated cost-saving claims and demand transparency
To: Sen. Curtis, Rep. Kennedy, Sen. Lee
From: A constituent in Sandy, UT
February 15
The claims made by the "Department of Government Efficiency" (DOGE) about saving billions of dollars through contract terminations lack transparency and appear to be exaggerated based on available data. While some contracts related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility initiatives have been canceled, the purported savings figures do not seem to align with public spending records. Additionally, terminating contracts does not automatically translate to cost savings for the government, as agencies still have to pay for completed work. It is concerning that words like "fraud" and "corruption" are being used to describe these contract terminations, which seem to be more about shifting political priorities rather than addressing actual wrongdoing. Furthermore, even if DOGE's claims of billion-dollar daily savings were accurate, this effort would have a relatively minor impact on the overall federal budget, which is dominated by entitlement programs and defense spending. I urge you to scrutinize DOGE's lack of transparency and the potential exaggeration of their supposed cost-saving measures. True fiscal responsibility requires a comprehensive approach backed by verifiable data, not unsubstantiated claims or partisan termination of contracts based on ideological grounds. I request that you call for greater transparency from DOGE and a more holistic strategy to address budgetary concerns responsibly.
