Such measures are discriminatory and pose serious threats to the health and well-being of transgender Americans. Gender-affirming care, including hormone therapy and related treatments, is recognized as medically necessary by major medical associations. Denying coverage for these services under Medicaid not only undermines the rights of transgender individuals but also exacerbates existing health disparities. This is particularly concerning for low-income individuals who rely on Medicaid for essential healthcare services. Moreover, the bill’s attempt to redefine “sex” under the Affordable Care Act to exclude gender identity further marginalizes transgender and intersex individuals, potentially leading to broader discrimination in healthcare settings. I urge you to stand against this harmful legislation and advocate for the protection of healthcare access for all individuals, regardless of gender identity.
