I am your constituent and I want you to know that the Wasteful and Inappropriate Service Reduction (WISeR) Model of using AI to deny prior authorizations for Traditional Medicare patients will go into effect on January 1, 2026 and run for 6 years. The states involved are Arizona, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, and Washington. Automated prior authorizations are a staple in commercial insurance. In fact, they have been denying needed care and harming (even killing) patients for years. In fact, at least one Medicare Advantage insurer (United Health) used AI to deny care knowing that their algorithm was faulty and denying far too many procedures in order to save money. If you want to save Medicare money - remember that Medicare Advantage costs the taxpayers 22% more than Traditional Medicare. Anyway there are two bills I strongly urge you to support to protect senior citizens. They are H.R. 5940: The “Seniors Deserve SMARTER Care Act of 2025 and H.R. 6361: The “Ban A.I. Denials in Medicare Act”. Seniors deserve to have the healthcare their doctors determine they need, not the lack of care from an algorithm. Thank you.
