The delay in installing the plaque honoring the police officers who defended the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021 is unacceptable. This bipartisan mandate was codified into law over a year ago, yet it remains unfulfilled due to apparent political gridlock. The heroes who risked their lives to protect our democracy deserve this modest recognition without further delay. By failing to uphold the law requiring the plaque's installation, Congress disrespects the very officers who safeguarded its members that fateful day. Immediate action must be taken to honor these public servants and comply with the legislation passed to commemorate their courage and sacrifice in the face of violence. Prolonging this process is an injustice to the officers and undermines Congress's commitment to democratic norms.
