Block any new ICE detention funding unless Congress mandates enforceable standards for privately operated facilities. The detainees at Delaney Hall in Newark are on hunger strike because they are being served expired food and meals with worms in them. People with cancer, diabetes, and depression were released not because their cases were resolved, but because they weren't receiving treatment. Support those hunger strikers — their demands for basic dignity and due process are legitimate.
When detainees protested, some were thrown into solitary confinement or transferred to punish them for speaking out. Gov. Sherrill was denied access to the facility entirely. GEO Group profits from nearly 900 people while federal agents fire pepper balls at lawmakers who show up to demand answers. That is not detention — it is punishment without any legal process.
Support Sen. Andy Kim's call to shut down Delaney Hall. Every person inside deserves a fair hearing, guaranteed medical care, and independent oversight. No ICE contract should be renewed or expanded without those protections in place.
