Defend the Corporation for Public Broadcasting - Stand Up for NPR and PBS

To: Sen. Coons, Rep. McBride, Sen. Blunt Rochester

From: A constituent in Claymont, DE

May 5

I am writing to express my outrage at Trump’s recent executive order "Ending Taxpayer Subsidization of Biased Media," which directs the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to cease all federal funding for NPR and PBS. Removing federal funding for these organizations – totaling 15% of PBS’ annual revenue and 1% of NPR’s annual budget – will severely limit access to quality programming, especially in underserved and rural communities. This move would force hundreds of locally owned stations to shut down, cutting off countless Americans from their radio, television, and related online and mobile services. Public broadcasting provides unbiased, educational, and culturally enriching content to millions of Americans. NPR and PBS are widely trusted sources of news and information, known for their journalistic integrity. The executive order undermines these values by labeling these institutions as biased (without any substantial evidence) and threatens the diversity of viewpoints and the availability of non-commercial media essential to a healthy democracy. I urge you to: • Publicly denounce the executive order and highlight the importance of NPR and PBS. • Support legislation that ensures continued federal funding for public broadcasting. • Collaborate with colleagues to form a coalition defending public broadcasting. • Engage with constituents to encourage them to voice their support for NPR and PBS. I look forward to seeing your action against this executive order and in support of public broadcasting.
