Investigate Chief Justice Roberts for Financial Disclosure Violations

To: Sen. Gallego, Rep. Crane, Sen. Kelly

From: A constituent in Flagstaff, AZ

April 27

Chief Justice John Roberts must be investigated for serious financial disclosure violations and potential disbarment. Over sixteen years, he allegedly mischaracterized more than $20 million in household income from law firms that appeared before the Supreme Court. His wife Jane Roberts earned $10,323,842.70 in commissions from these same firms over seven years. Roberts concealed his wife's equity stake in her employer for three consecutive years on federal disclosure forms. He then failed to recuse himself from more than 500 cases argued by law firms that had paid his household millions in commissions. This conduct directly violates 28 U.S.C. § 455, which requires judges to disqualify themselves when their impartiality might reasonably be questioned. The conflict of interest is staggering. Roberts architected the Court's first ethics code and designed it to be unenforceable, essentially writing his own rules. When a Chief Justice accepts millions from parties with business before his court and conceals it, he undermines the entire judicial system. I'm calling on you to demand a full investigation and support efforts to hold Roberts accountable, including potential disbarment proceedings. The integrity of our highest court depends on it.
