Immediate Congressional Investigation Required into ALL Killings by ICE Agents

To: Sen. Cruz, Rep. Carter, Sen. Cornyn

From: A constituent in Leander, TX

January 9

This letter is a demand—not a request—for an immediate, public, and comprehensive investigation into the killings committed by agents of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement over the past year. People are dead at the hands of a federal law enforcement agency operating in the name of the United States government. That alone should have triggered urgent Congressional action. Instead, there has been silence, secrecy, and a complete failure of accountability. The American people do not know how many individuals have been killed by ICE agents. We do not know all their names. We do not know the full circumstances of their deaths. That is not an accident—it is a choice. A choice made by those in power to obscure violence, avoid scrutiny, and shield a federal agency from consequences. This is unacceptable. Congress has both the authority and the obligation to act. You must immediately: • Open a formal investigation into every killing involving ICE agents in the past year. • Subpoena all relevant records, including use-of-force reports, body camera footage, internal reviews, and communications. • Require ICE and the Department of Homeland Security to publicly release the name of every person killed, along with the date, location, and circumstances of each death. • Determine whether these killings involved excessive force, civil rights violations, or criminal conduct—and refer cases for prosecution where warranted. No democracy allows a federal agency to kill people and then hide the bodies behind redactions and press releases. No agency is above the law. No badge grants immunity from accountability. If Congress does not know the names of the dead, that is proof of failure. If Congress does know and refuses to say them, that is complicity. Human lives are not classified information. Transparency is not optional. Oversight is not performative—it is your job. The American people are watching. We are counting the dead, even if you refuse to. And we will not accept excuses, delays, or another quiet burial of the truth. Investigate. Expose. Hold accountable.
