Impeach Trump and Vance for Authoritarian Immigration Enforcement Tactics
To: Sen. Husted, Rep. Joyce, Sen. Moreno
From: A constituent in Willoughby, OH
January 10
I am writing to demand immediate impeachment proceedings against President Trump and Vice President JD Vance for implementing authoritarian immigration enforcement tactics that fundamentally threaten American democracy and constitutional rights.
This week, Vice President Vance publicly defended ICE agents conducting door-to-door operations at residences, stating agents are "going door to door and making sure that if you're an illegal alien, you've got to get out of this country." He made these statements while defending an ICE agent who shot Renee Good in Minneapolis. These controversial ICE shootings, including at least one deadly incident, represent a dangerous escalation in enforcement tactics.
Door-to-door immigration operations at people's homes mirror tactics used by Nazi storm troopers and Gestapo members in the months after Hitler took power. In mid-1933, SA and Gestapo agents went door to door looking for Hitler's enemies, including socialists, communists, and trade union leaders. Many were arrested and some killed. By mid-1933, organized opposition had been eliminated and democracy in Germany effectively ended. This historical parallel is not hyperbole but a factual comparison of enforcement methods.
The Department of Homeland Security is reportedly preparing to target liberals and Trump administration critics under the guise of fighting domestic terrorism. This makes it plausible that masked government agents could appear at any American's doorstep for any reason, regardless of immigration status. This represents a clear abuse of executive power and violation of constitutional protections against unreasonable search and seizure.
I urge you to immediately introduce or co-sponsor articles of impeachment against both President Trump and Vice President Vance. The use of paramilitary tactics against civilians, the shooting of American citizens during immigration enforcement, and the preparation to target political opponents constitute high crimes and misdemeanors. Democracy cannot survive when government agents conduct door-to-door operations reminiscent of authoritarian regimes. The time for action is now, before these tactics become normalized and irreversible damage is done to our constitutional republic.
