Dismantling the Department of Education would have devastating consequences for students, families, and the future of our nation's education system. The Department plays a crucial role in administering federal grant programs that provide essential funding to high-poverty schools and support services for students with disabilities. It oversees the $1.6 trillion federal student loan program and sets standards for colleges to ensure access and accountability. Furthermore, the Department enforces vital civil rights laws that protect students from discrimination based on race, gender, and other factors. Closing the Department would disrupt the lives of millions of students across the country, exacerbating inequities and depriving schools and families of crucial resources and protections. Rather than dismantling this agency, we should be strengthening it to better support quality education for all children, safeguard civil rights, and invest in our nation's future prosperity through accessible higher education opportunities. I urge you to oppose any efforts to shut down or weaken the Department of Education. Our students, families, and the future of our educational system depend on maintaining and bolstering this critical agency.
