I am writing to you as a dedicated state employee to advocate for a raise or cost-of-living adjustment. Like many others across North Carolina's public agencies, I continue to take on more responsibilities without the resources, support, or compensation needed to match the growing demands.
In my role, I support critical research efforts that directly benefit the state and the public. The work I do helps attract funding, supports healthcare innovation, and strengthens North Carolina's position as a leader in education and research. Every project that moves forward improves the lives of our citizens and brings long-term value to the state.
However, the ongoing vacancy crisis has placed a severe strain on our workforce. Every day, we are asked to cover more ground with fewer people. Roles that once had dedicated support now rely on individuals juggling multiple jobs just to keep essential services running. The result is a system under constant stress, with fewer hands trying to uphold the same standards of excellence the public expects and deserves.
We urgently need more workers, not fewer. Every vacancy left unfilled slows progress, weakens services, and drives away the experienced professionals who keep our state competitive. Without real investment in the people who power our public institutions, we risk undermining everything we have worked so hard to build.
A raise or cost-of-living adjustment is not simply about recognition. It is about survival. It is about ensuring that state service remains a viable, respected career option rather than a temporary stopgap before people flee to the private sector. It is about valuing the people who are committed to serving North Carolina with skill, dedication, and pride.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
