Vote No on the PROTECT Kids Act Vote no on the PROTECT Kids Act. This bill would strip schools of the ability to use a student's preferred name or pronouns without parental sign-off, and it would do so by threatening to yank Elementary and Secondary Education Act funding from any school that doesn't comply. That's not protecting kids — it's using federal dollars to force schools to out transgender students to their parents, including parents who may be abusive or hostile. The bill leaves critical terms like "gender markers" and "sex-based accommodations" completely undefined, guaranteeing a wave of litigation that will cost schools time and money they don't have. There are no exceptions for emergency situations, no carve-outs for mature minors, and no acknowledgment that forced disclosure can put vulnerable kids at real risk of family conflict, homelessness, and mental health crises. Research is clear that rejection at home is one of the greatest risk factors for transgender youth. This bill manufactures that rejection by design. Schools should be safe places where every student can learn. Block this bill.
