Defend Unemployment Benefits — Begin Impeachment Proceedings Now

To: Sen. Husted, Sen. Moreno, Rep. Joyce

From: A constituent in Willoughby, OH

June 21

Begin impeachment proceedings against President Trump under Article 2, Section 4. Threatening to strip federal funding from unemployment insurance programs in all 50 states — a first in American history — is not a policy disagreement. It is an abuse of power directed at nearly 2 million people who depend on those benefits right now. Acting Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling sent letters to governors across 53 states and territories threatening to withhold administrative funds, citing COVID-era fraud as cover. But Senators Wyden and Merkley are right: this administration is targeting legitimate social services, not fraudsters. The Task Force to Eliminate Fraud has already withheld $1.4 billion from states like California and Minnesota. These are real families losing real support. Using the power of the federal purse to coerce states into gutting their own safety nets is exactly what high crimes and misdemeanors looks like. Hold this administration accountable. Start the process now.
