An Open Letter

To: Sen. McCormick, Sen. Fetterman

From: A constituent in Wexford, PA

February 5

As a resident of Pennsylvania I am writing to express my deep concern over the Presidents desire to shut down the Department of Education. This department provides much needed support for students and ensuring equal access to education. If these activities rest solely with the States it will further expand the gap between classes and minority groups will have less access to education and services. Not every state has the same financial means to support these programs entirely. Even Trump himself stated that some states would end up with better education than others. This is an outrage and should not be supported by anyone. The idea of a voucher program is unacceptable as well. The wealthy will be the only people who can afford the “good” schools. The conservatives want to push a religious agenda in our schools and in our government. This is everything our country was against when it was founded. Religion has NO place in our schools or government as a formal policy. It is not the job of our government to set a moral agenda. Stop these actions and do not allow the Dept of Education to be dismantled. If you do, you will not be representing all of your constituents, but only those wealthy enough to afford the new policies and you will be voted out. Do better!
