Now-former Representative Matt Gaetz was brought before the House Ethics Committee on charges of illicit drug use and sexual misconduct with a minor. He resigned from office, knowing that doing so before the committee’s report was released would render it null and void as those charges were no longer in their jurisdiction.
However, the report has been finalized and was ready to be released at the time of Gaetz’s resignation. Your constituency believes that while that report cannot be used to prosecute Gaetz, it absolutely should be used to influence your decision to confirm him as the next Attorney General, or not, as the case may be.
Your constituency urges you to request that report now, not later, to mitigate any opportunities for impropriety. More simply, your constituency wants you to read it before they have time to change it.
Do not confirm Matt Gaetz for the office of Attorney General without seeing that report first and if you are not given a copy of the report, it is your responsibility to vote against confirmation.
