Support HB180 to Expand Voting Rights

To: Sen. Seigfried, Gov. Meyer, Rep. Lambert

From: A constituent in Claymont, DE

June 2, 2025

I am writing to express my support for House Bill 180, which proposes an amendment to Article V of the Delaware Constitution relating to voting rights. This bill represents a significant step toward ensuring fair and equitable voting practices in our state by • Limiting the loss of voting rights for individuals convicted of felonies to the period of imprisonment or until pardoned • Removing the General Assembly's ability to impose forfeiture of voting rights as punishment for crimes • Ending the practice of making the restoration of voting rights contingent on monetary payments • Updating the voting age to 18 years or older • Eliminating literacy tests as a qualification for voting Removing these barriers to voting helps ensure that all citizens, regardless of their background or socioeconomic status, have an equal voice in the democratic process. We need this now, more than ever. Thank you for your attention.
