Please do NOT support making Medicare Advantage plans the default Medicare plan. Mayo and John’s Hopkins in the U.S. are ranked as the best hospital systems in the world. With original Medicare we have the option of being treated there no matter where we live. My husband had a rare and aggressive form of skin cancer. We live in Sun City West just outside Phoenix and are fortunate enough to have Mayo Clinic here. They are ranked number one in healthcare in the world and treated him successfully. I worked in healthcare for over 40 years as a clinical laboratory science manager. I am very much aware that the quality of healthcare varies greatly from place to place and where you are treated is literally the difference between life and death in many cases. Even with Mayo, the number one healthcare system in the world, literally in our neighborhood, if we had an Advantage plan we would not have been able to be treated by them and would have had to settle for lower quality of care. In addition the government pays more for Advantage plans with lower quality care. Why on earth would that be your choice?
