Concerns regarding ICE

To: Sen. Johnson, Sen. Baldwin, Rep. Pocan

From: A constituent in Sun Prairie, WI

January 26

I am writing as a concerned constituent regarding the conduct and oversight of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). I support strong border security and effective enforcement of our immigration laws. I do not support open borders, nor do I believe the United States should provide unlimited resources to individuals who enter the country illegally. However, I am equally concerned about reports and perceptions that some ICE personnel believe they can conduct warrantless searches or operate without meaningful accountability. If true, this undermines constitutional protections, erodes public trust, and puts both citizens and law enforcement officers at risk. Poor training, unclear legal boundaries, and lack of oversight can lead to dangerous situations and violations of civil liberties. I respectfully urge Congress to ensure that ICE agents are properly trained, held to clear legal standards, and subject to transparent oversight. Strong enforcement and respect for the rule of law must go hand in hand. Our nation is strongest when security and constitutional rights are protected together. I appreciate your attention to this important matter and look forward to your leadership on ensuring lawful, professional, and accountable immigration enforcement.
