As a constituent, I am urgently asking you to act to shut down family detention centers. Children are not criminals, and detaining them causes real and lasting harm. I was heartbroken and outraged by the arrest of five-year-old Liam Ramos—wearing his bunny hat and Spider-Man backpack—by ICE with his father, and by the conditions he now faces in family detention. I strongly urge the Representative to visit the family detention center in Dilley, Texas, and to bring immediate attention to the inhumane conditions there. Testimonies describe families fighting over scarce water, inadequate medical care, and severe psychological trauma inflicted on people—many of whom are lawfully seeking asylum. This is unjust and unacceptable. I ask the Representative to act now to end family detention.
