Reject Patel's politicized FBI nomination, uphold democratic norms
To: Sen. McConnell, Sen. Paul
From: A constituent in Louisville, KY
December 3
I feel compelled to voice my strong opposition to the nomination of Kash Patel as the next director of the FBI. Patel has openly expressed his intention to weaponize the federal law enforcement agency for political vengeance against President Trump's perceived enemies, including members of the media, political opponents, and even former government officials involved in investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election. This represents a dangerous erosion of democratic norms and a flagrant abuse of power that should be unacceptable in a free society. Patel's track record is deeply concerning. His inflammatory rhetoric about purging the "deep state" and unleashing prosecutions against those he deems disloyal to Trump is chilling and antithetical to the principles of an independent judiciary. Moreover, his lack of relevant law enforcement experience and oversight capabilities cast doubt on his ability to effectively lead an agency as critical as the FBI. An individual with such an obvious political axe to grind and a stated agenda of retaliation cannot be entrusted with the immense powers of the FBI. Confirming Patel would irreparably damage the credibility of this vital institution and dangerously undermine the rule of law. I urge you to firmly reject this nomination and uphold your duty to protect our democratic system from authoritarian overreach and abuse. The American people deserve far better.
