Prioritize public education funding, oppose HB3 private school subsidies

To: Rep. Harris Davila, Sen. Schwertner, Gov. Abbott, Lt. Gov. Patrick

From: A constituent in Leander, TX

March 12

The proposed House Bill 3 which would create an education savings account program for families to use state funds for private school tuition raises significant concerns. While expanding educational options may seem appealing, this bill risks undermining the public school system that serves the vast majority of Texas students. A billion dollars that could directly fund and improve public schools would instead be diverted to private institutions. Our priority should be strengthening public education to provide high-quality learning for all children, not subsidizing private school costs for a few families. Please listen to Texans across the state and vote no on HB3. I urge you to vote against HB3 and instead focus resources on addressing the real issues facing our public schools - from adequate funding to improving school safety. Our children's future depends on a strong commitment to public education accessible to all.
