Subject: Defend Fair Representation in North Carolina
Dear Governor Stein and Members of the North Carolina General Assembly,
I am writing as a concerned citizen of North Carolina to express my deep alarm over reports that legislative leaders plan to redraw our state’s congressional districts once again—this time at the urging of former President Donald Trump.
This mid-decade redistricting effort is a blatant power grab that undermines public trust and weakens our democracy. North Carolina is a politically balanced state, yet our current 10–4 congressional split already overrepresents one party. Any further manipulation of district lines—particularly targeting majority-minority districts—would silence communities of color, suppress fair competition, and entrench minority rule.
The people of North Carolina deserve fair maps drawn in the public interest, not in service of partisan agendas or political endorsements. Our legislature should focus on governing—funding education, supporting public health, and strengthening our economy—not dismantling the foundation of representative democracy.
I urge you to reject this proposed gerrymander and commit to transparent, nonpartisan redistricting that honors the voices of all North Carolinians. Fair representation is not a partisan issue; it is the cornerstone of our republic.
Respectfully,
