An Open Letter

To: Sen. Hickenlooper, Rep. Hurd, Sen. Bennet

From: A constituent in Pagosa Springs, CO

March 4

I write to urge you NOT to authorize or support the "Military Actions" taken by the Executive Branch and the Department of Defense against Iran. While I do not support the regime of Iran, I also strongly believe that the scope and scale of this 'operation' is firmly within the framers' intended definition of 'war', which as we know, should be solely declared by Congress, and no other body. Recent decades have challenged the definition of war, and while we have not had a formal declaration since June 4th, 1942, we have also not had an administration that has so blatantly disregarded what the intention of such an 'action' or 'operation' is meant to be. Our Navy is in open combat, we are exchanging missiles, allied cities are being obliterated, there is no clear or factual information being provided to the American people, and we have no idea what the specific objectives of the operation actually are. We are now setting a different precedent - one in which the administration openly stated they didn't believe 'the courtesy' of informing Congress was even necessary. It is against an unstable nuclear adversary, and as demonstrated, it is force without any corresponding diplomacy, that has destabilized the entire region, put allies at risk, and threatens the entire world order. Authorizing such action, especially without limit, is completely relinquishing one of the final checks the Representative body has against the Executive; it is allowing unstable leadership to plow our nation and planet into peril, the likes of which we have never seen before, and leads us significantly closer to a truly extinction-level conflict. This is not about party lines, red or blue. This is now a matter of religious fanaticism - stated as such by the Secretary of War himself. Your vote may prove to be one of the final checks against this utter madness spiraling into a truly unrecoverable situation for generations to come. Represent us - take back this power that was granted to you by the people and the Constitution - and demonstrate assertive leadership that is willing to stand for the fate of our nation and world.
