An Open Letter

To: Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla, Rep. Kamlager-Dove

From: A constituent in Los Angeles, CA

February 7

The sudden freezing of US Agency for International Development (USAID) funding for clinical trials is an alarming and unethical action that has severely disrupted vital medical research around the world. Dozens of trials have been forced to cease abruptly, leaving thousands of participants with experimental drugs and devices in their bodies but without access to the monitoring and care they require. This reckless decision jeopardizes the health and well-being of these vulnerable individuals who trusted in the integrity of these studies. Beyond the unconscionable impact on trial participants, this move undermines America's global standing and reputation as a leader in advancing medical research for the benefit of all. The dismantling of USAID is an assault on humanitarian efforts and an abandonment of our responsibilities to millions worldwide who rely on such initiatives to combat diseases and improve public health. This destructive agenda driven by partisan politics over ethical considerations is a shameful dereliction of moral duty. Urgent action is needed to fully reinstate funding for USAID and allow its dedicated personnel to resume their crucial work saving lives through international collaboration on clinical trials and health programs. Restoring this vital agency must be a top priority to uphold America's commitment to global health and human rights. The consequences of inaction are dire and unacceptable.
