I urge you to support and advance a constitutional amendment overturning Citizens United and related campaign finance decisions, restoring the authority of Congress and the states to set meaningful limits on political spending.
The Supreme Court continues to weaken protections against the influence of wealthy donors. In June, it struck down federal limits on political party spending coordinated with candidates. On October 14, it intervened again in a dispute over discounted political advertising, blocking a deadline for the FCC to complete its review of a policy extending lower rates to party committees and joint fundraising committees.
These decisions deepen the damage caused by a campaign finance system that gives billionaires and corporations extraordinary power to influence who wins elections and whose priorities receive attention afterward.
That influence has direct consequences for tax policy. Wealthy donors and corporate interests can spend enormous sums supporting politicians who preserve their tax advantages, while working families struggle to secure funding for health care, education, and other essential services.
Please publicly support a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United, work to secure its passage through Congress, and send it to the states for ratification. Congress should also strengthen donor disclosure and campaign finance enforcement under its existing authority.
Our democracy must give everyday voters a meaningful voice in the decisions that shape their lives. Please act to end billionaire and corporate domination of our elections.
