Oppose DHS Appropriations That Fund ICE

To: Rep. Schmidt, Sen. Moran, Sen. Marshall

January 20

I am a constituent, and I am writing to urge you to oppose any appropriations bill for the Department of Homeland Security that maintains or increases funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). ICE has a long record of human rights abuses, lack of transparency, and harmful enforcement practices that tear families apart and destabilize communities. Continued funding for this agency enables detention, deportation, and surveillance policies that disproportionately harm immigrants, asylum seekers, and communities of color—often without due process or meaningful oversight. At a time when so many communities are struggling to afford housing, healthcare, childcare, and education, Congress should be investing in programs that keep people safe, healthy, and housed—not expanding a punitive enforcement system that causes trauma and fear. If DHS funding is to be renewed, it must come with a fundamental shift away from detention and deportation and toward humane, community-based immigration support systems. Anything less is a continuation of a broken and harmful status quo. I urge you to vote NO on any DHS appropriations package that maintains or expands funding for ICE, and instead advocate for an immigration system rooted in dignity, due process, and human rights. Thank you for your time and consideration.
