NO Handguns in the mail! Please vote for, and co-sponsor the Keep Illegal Handguns Out of the Mail Act to block a dangerous new rule proposed by the Trump administration. That new rule would make it legal to use the US mail to ship illegal handguns through the U.S. Postal Service. Do we need this new rule? NO! Listen to Rep Thompson: "Reversing a sensible 99-year-old law against mailing handguns is flat out dangerous...Families, postal workers, and law enforcement want more safety measures in place, not fewer. Instead of focusing on lowering costs or protecting our democracy, Republicans are carrying out the whims of the gun lobby and reversing popular safety measures at the cost of Americans’ lives.” The US is already teaming with handguns and it's shockingly easy to obtain and transport all manner of handguns and even military grade assault weapons. Firearms are the leading cause of death for children and teens (ages 1 to 19) in the United States, surpassing motor vehicle crashes and illness. Over 2,500 children and teens are killed by guns annually. Nonfatal injuries can still be tragic and life-changing: they are twice as common. What problem does it solve to make it even easier to move guns across state borders? We need policies that curtail gun violence and strengthen background checks, not policies to circumvent laws and make guns easier to obtain and ship. You know it's easier to obtain a gun than to register to vote or vote in some states now?
