I am writing to urge you to take immediate action to extend the enhanced Affordable Care Act (ACA) health care subsidies before they expire at the end of this year. Without these subsidies, health insurance premiums will skyrocket for many Alaskan families, dramatically reducing access to affordable healthcare.
In Alaska, individuals currently paying minimal premiums—for example, as low as $15 per month—could see their costs increase to more than $120 monthly or more, an increase of nearly 800%. For working families and middle-income earners, this steep rise will impose a heavy financial burden, risking their ability to maintain health coverage and care. The loss of subsidies will also reduce plan choices and affordability, impacting many who rely on the ACA marketplace to access health insurance.
This crisis is intensified by the ongoing government shutdown, which is delaying vital funding decisions and threatening the health and economic security of Alaskans. Everyone deserves affordable, accessible healthcare regardless of income or politics.
Please support extending these subsidies to protect Alaskan families and preserve the stability of our healthcare system.
Thank you for your attention and urgent leadership on this critical issue.
