I am writing to express my absolute disapproval and horror at President Trump’s decision to launch military strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites without seeking congressional approval. This action—remarkably carried out on June 21, 2025—represents a blatant disregard for the Constitution’s clear delegation of war powers to Congress. Numerous lawmakers, including Senators Schumer, Sanders, and Representatives Ocasio-Cortez and Tlaib, have explicitly called the attack “unconstitutional,” warning that it risks drawing the United States into an open-ended war and potentially devastating regional conflict . The War Powers Resolution simply does not authorize such unilateral action in the absence of an imminent attack on U.S. territory or forces .
I urge you to act immediately to uphold our Constitution by ensuring robust congressional oversight of any military engagement with Iran. Please support—or introduce—legislation requiring explicit congressional authorization for further strikes or troop deployments in Iran, and consider invoking budgetary authority to prevent funding for an undeclared war. The American people deserve transparency, accountability, and a deliberate debate—not sudden military escalation driven by executive impulse. We must prevent the erosion of Congress’s fundamental role in matters of war and peace.
