I’m deeply concerned about our country’s safety and the direction of your administration’s disaster response preparedness. The floods in Texas were tragic. While the National Weather Service says warnings were sent on time, people still suffered and lives were lost. Secretary Noem pointed to outdated technology and vague plans for upgrades, but instead of real answers or meaningful solutions, the public is left with blame and empty promises. This is not an isolated mistake. Each natural disaster shows that the problem is not going away. In fact, it is getting worse. Your administration has repeatedly cut funding for emergency preparedness and sidelined expert advice. Climate change is making disasters more frequent and more severe, yet your administration has not treated it as the urgent threat it is. At the same time, you have prioritized tax cuts for billionaires over investing in public safety. Too often, your leadership has chosen political messaging over facts, which weakens public trust in the very institutions that are meant to protect us. When people lose faith in these systems, it becomes even harder to keep communities safe. The consequences fall hardest on those who are already vulnerable. Low-income families, rural communities, and minorities bear the greatest burden when our government fails to invest in strong disaster response. If warnings reached Texans but the response still failed, the issue is not with forecasting but with leadership and planning. Blaming others will not keep Americans safe. We need leaders who support science, listen to experts, and put public safety ahead of political gain. Real safety cannot be achieved when tax cuts for the wealthy come before the needs of the people, and when you’ve eroded the public’s trust in our government. Americans see through the excuses, and we know what true leadership looks like. It means putting people’s safety first - ahead of politics and special interests.
