Do Not Fund the Disenfranchisement Extortion Scheme

To: Sen. Gallego, Sen. Kelly

From: A verified voter in Tucson, AZ

August 4

Senator, The continuous efforts to force the SAVE America Act into law—whether through the House's recent $10 billion budget extortion scheme or by smuggling it into unrelated legislation—represent an unprecedented attack on the core of the Constitution. We are past the point of business as usual. The fundamental mechanics of our democratic process are at risk, and defending the integrity of the midterm elections is paramount. All efforts to pass any portion of the SAVE America Act must be unequivocally defeated in the Senate, regardless of the legislative collateral damage required to do so. The systemic mechanisms authorized by these maneuvers present a catastrophic, logistical threat to free and fair elections in our state: Federal Coercion & Overreach: The House's attempt to leverage $10 billion to incentivize states to adopt severe Documentary Proof of Citizenship (DPOC) mandates weaponizes the federal budget. This is a direct assault on local election administration and an unconstitutional federal power grab. The Verified Documentation Gap: A verified 10% documentation gap exists nationally. Applying this locally demonstrates that tens of thousands of eligible voters are at immediate risk of disenfranchisement simply because they lack instant, physical access to certified vital records. Administrative Collapse: Forcing states to physically verify original birth certificates and passports will paralyze local county recorder offices. This explicitly harms rural, senior, and working-class voters who face steep financial and transit barriers to obtaining and presenting replacement documents. You cannot protect our families while allowing procedural tricks designed to strip them of their constitutional voice to advance in the Senate. I demand you publicly condemn this legislative smuggling, reject the House's $10 billion budget coercion scheme, and vote against any funding package or legislation that enables the SAVE America Act—even if it means a shutdown. The midterms are too important.
