I am one of your constituents, and I need you to hear me right now- what is happening in Iran is a crime, and your silence makes you complicit in it.
Trump threw us into a war with Iran. No declaration of war. No real authorization from Congress. No honest explanation to the American people. Just bombs, threats, and body counts. Our fighter jets are getting shot down over Iranian territory. Our soldiers are being hunted through mountains while rescue missions fall apart behind “enemy” lines. This is not what a functioning, legitimate government looks like. This is chaos with a flag on it.
And then today… TODAY… this man said “an entire civilization will die tonight.” Read that back to yourself. Sit with it. That is your president threatening to wipe a civilization off the map. That is not the language of a commander in chief. That is not sanity. That is not leadership. That is something we don’t have a polite word for.
He’s been threatening to bomb every bridge and every power plant in Iran. Experts in military law, people who spent decades in uniform, are saying out loud on national television that is a war crime. Not a gray area. Not a technicality. A war crime. The same thing we condemned Russia for doing in Ukraine. The same conduct we called barbaric when someone else did it.
Hospitals lose power. Water goes unclean. Medicine spoils. Babies die in operating rooms. That’s what destroying civilian infrastructure means in human terms. And Trump is threatening to do it to an entire country while his cabinet stands there nodding.
Enough! I am not asking you to consider action. I am not asking you to form a committee. I am asking you to do your job.
Support impeachment. Demand accountability for this war’s legal authority, or total lack thereof. Make clear that no president, no cabinet, no party gets to threaten genocide and call it foreign policy.
We have done terrible things as a country before. We carry that. But we are supposed to be better than this, or at least try to be. The world is watching to see if we still have the spine to hold power accountable.
Do you?
