Pass the ACA Subsidies in a Clean Bill — Protect Coverage Without Delay

To: Sen. Padilla, Sen. Schiff, Rep. Huffman

From: A constituent in Petaluma, CA

December 26

We, the people, call on Congress to immediately pass the Affordable Care Act premium subsidies in a clean, standalone bill. These subsidies are not a political favor. They are a stabilizing mechanism that keeps health insurance affordable for millions of working families, self-employed individuals, caregivers, and retirees who do not receive employer-sponsored coverage. Allowing these subsidies to expire or be leveraged in partisan negotiations would result in predictable and preventable harm: • Sharp premium increases • Coverage losses for millions • Delayed preventative care • Increased strain on emergency systems • Higher long-term healthcare costs for states and taxpayers Members of Congress are insulated from these consequences by taxpayer-funded healthcare and pensions. The public is not. This is not a request for charity. It is a demand for responsible governance. We are asking you to do one clear thing: Pass the ACA subsidies in a clean bill, without riders, delays, or political bargaining. Healthcare access should not be a hostage. Preventative care should not be optional. Stability should not depend on election cycles. Your role is not to debate whether people deserve healthcare. Your role is to ensure the systems you oversee function without causing harm. We are watching. We are counting. And we expect action.
