Vote against big auto and for the repair act HR1566.

To: Sen. Cantwell, Sen. Murray, Rep. Newhouse

From: A verified voter in West Richland, WA

June 10

I am writing to you as a constituent and a vehicle owner to demand your aggressive support for the Right to Repair movement, specifically by backing the REPAIR Act (H.R. 1566). The current trajectory of the automotive industry is a direct threat to consumer freedom, free-market competition, and the survival of independent local mechanics. For generations, Americans have had the right to work on their own vehicles or take them to a trusted local mechanic. Today, major automakers are deliberately utilizing advanced software, proprietary diagnostic locks, and digital "parts pairing" to gatekeep data. By shutting out independent repair shops and everyday consumers from accessing vital diagnostic and calibration telematics, the "Big Three" and other major manufacturers are enforcing an illegal monopoly over post-warranty service. This forces consumers into overpriced dealership networks and starves small, independent repair businesses of their livelihood. Furthermore, these massive corporations have weaponized federal lobbying to insulate themselves from true global competition. By keeping the American automotive market effectively locked down against new foreign entrants through protectionist regulatory barriers, they hold the American consumer hostage. We are left with fewer options, lower standards of innovation, and artificially inflated prices for both vehicles and maintenance. A vehicle is one of the most significant investments an American family makes. Once we buy it, we—not the manufacturer—should own the right to decide how and where it gets fixed. I urge you to stand up for small businesses and consumer rights by voting in favor of the REPAIR Act (H.R. 1566) without allowing its enforcement mechanisms to be watered down by industry pressure. Please let me know your specific stance on this bill and what actions you are taking to curb these anti-competitive monopolies. Thank you for your time and your service to our community.
