As I’m sure you’re aware, X recently, in a spectacularly failed attempt to humiliate Democrats, turned on a feature that automatically disclosed the location of every account that posted on its platform. Malign foreign actors watched Russia’s success in meddling in American politics in 2016 and have followed suit. Their unveiling, even if only for a few hours, was obviously an eye opening moment for many Americans. These actors should not be allowed to continue working In anonymity any longer. They are doing too much damage to our country. We already know we cannot rely upon the social media platforms to do the right thing. I’m writing to ask you to sponsor legislation to require social media platforms to automatically identify the country of origin of every user on their platform. Thank you for your attention to this matter and thank you for all you do for the country.
