Protect Michigan residents' healthcare access - Oppose Medicaid cuts
To: Rep. Dingell
From: A constituent in Plymouth, MI
April 18
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) plays a vital role in providing healthcare coverage and essential services to millions of Michiganders through Medicaid. The proposed federal cuts to Medicaid funding would have devastating consequences, jeopardizing access to care for over 2.6 million residents, including 1 million children, 300,000 individuals with disabilities, and 168,000 seniors. These cuts could force hospitals, community health centers, nursing homes, and other providers across the state to reduce services or even close their doors, exacerbating healthcare access issues, especially in rural and underserved areas. Beyond just health insurance coverage, Medicaid supports critical programs that promote mental health and overall wellness for all Michigan residents. A significant reduction in federal Medicaid funds would strain the state's budget, potentially requiring cuts to other vital services and undermining efforts to improve public health outcomes. The economic impact would also be severe, with estimates suggesting Medicaid expansion alone created over 30,000 new jobs and generated additional tax revenue annually. It is imperative to push back against these proposed cuts that threaten the well-being of our most vulnerable populations and the stability of our healthcare system. As the state's chief executive, you have the authority and responsibility to advocate for the interests of all Michiganders. I urge you to utilize every available avenue to oppose these draconian measures and protect the essential healthcare services that Medicaid provides to our communities.
